Bangladesh have beaten Pakistan in a bilateral ODI series for the first time in 11 years. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been cleared for IPL 2026 — just 12 days before the opener. And MS Dhoni, aged 44, is confirmed to play every single match of what could be his final IPL season.
Three massive stories on March 16, 2026 — here is everything you need to know.
🇧🇩 Bangladesh Win ODI Series 2-1 — Tanzid 107 Trumps Agha's 106 in All-Time Classic
This was, as ESPNcricinfo put it, "an old-fashioned classic disguised as 21st century cricket." Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 11 runs in a match where two batters — Salman Agha and Tanzid Hasan — played stellar knocks while everyone else struggled. Bangladesh won their second bilateral ODI series against Pakistan — the two series being 11 years apart.
Bangladesh batted first and posted 290 for 5 — with Tanzid Hasan Tamim scoring 107 off 97 balls, his maiden ODI century. Tanzid stitched a 105-run opening partnership with Saif Hassan, who scored 36 off 55, before accelerating through the middle overs. When Tanzid was dismissed in the 37th over — cutting Abrar Ahmed to Shaheen Shah Afridi at cover — Bangladesh were perfectly placed. Towhid Hridoy's unbeaten 48 off 44 then finished the innings off with a flourish, and Bangladesh posted a total that looked like enough — just.
Pakistan's chase began disastrously, crumbling to 17 for 3 inside the first three overs as Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana dismissed Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, and Mohammad Rizwan in the first three overs — exactly the kind of start Pakistan could not afford. Salman Ali Agha came in at number five and proceeded to play one of the most extraordinary lone-warrior knocks in recent ODI memory — 106 off 98 balls, with boundaries all around the ground, keeping Pakistan right in the hunt when all around him were crumbling.
With Shaheen Shah Afridi — batting at number 10 — providing remarkable lower-order support (37 off 38 balls), Pakistan needed 14 off the final over with one wicket remaining. Rishad Hossain ran back to collect a skier and spilled it at mid-on when he could have closed out the match — giving Pakistan hope. But off the very last ball, Afridi danced down to swing at Rishad's tossed-up delivery outside leg — and missed completely. Litton Das stumped him in a flash. Bangladesh won by 11 runs. Series: Bangladesh 2-1 Pakistan.
For Pakistan, the questions are familiar and brutal: three top-order wickets for 17 in a series decider — again. After losing the first ODI for just 114, and levelling impressively in the second, this third-match collapse undid all the good work. Agha can hold his head high — he scored 174 runs in the series at an average of 87.00, carrying a bowling attack that could not support him. The T20I series begins in a few days.

🏟️ Chinnaswamy Stadium Officially Cleared for IPL 2026 — March 28 Opener Confirmed
The biggest IPL 2026 off-field story was resolved this morning — and for RCB fans, it was the best possible news.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, March 16, received formal approval from the Karnataka government to host IPL 2026 matches. The clearance comes after months of uncertainty following the tragic stampede on June 4, 2025 — when 11 fans lost their lives during RCB's IPL 2025 title celebrations near the stadium. No cricket had been played at Chinnaswamy since that night.
The clearance was granted after Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara chaired a meeting with the Expert Committee — appointed by the state government — along with representatives from KSCA and RCB. The committee conducted a thorough review of the stadium premises on Friday, including structural compliance checks and crowd control measures. The final nod was given today.
The safety changes implemented are extensive. The KSCA has increased the number of entry points by constructing six new gates around the Chinnaswamy, while widening existing entry gates. QR-coded tickets will be used to prevent overcrowding. Bengaluru Metro services will be extended until 1am on match days — and it is likely that fans with match tickets will be able to travel free of cost. The old NCA premises have been converted into a holding area for fans arriving before gates open.
Chinnaswamy will host five RCB home games, while two others will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium in Raipur. And crucially — the stadium will also host one playoff game and the IPL 2026 final on May 31, in keeping with the tradition of the defending champions hosting the title clash.
The March 28 opener — RCB vs Sunrisers Hyderabad — is now fully confirmed at Chinnaswamy. Tickets are expected to go on sale this week.
👑 MS Dhoni Confirmed for All IPL 2026 Matches — The Final Countdown Begins
The question every cricket fan has been asking since India's T20 World Cup triumph: is this MS Dhoni's final IPL season? And if so — will he actually play?
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has answered both questions definitively. Addressing the media at CSK's High Performance Centre in Chennai, Viswanathan confirmed: "He will play the matches, all matches. As far as we are concerned, he is fully available for the season." The CEO noted that Dhoni's specific role — whether as a full-time wicketkeeper, pure batter, or Impact Player — remains a tactical decision the team management will take match by match.
Dhoni is 44 years old. He has managed a persistent knee injury across the last three IPL seasons. He has not played international cricket since India's 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final exit. And yet — he remains the most followed cricketer on the planet, and his presence in the CSK dressing room continues to transform the entire team's dynamic.
The storylines surrounding CSK this IPL are extraordinary. Sanju Samson — Player of the Tournament at T20 WC 2026 — has moved from Rajasthan Royals to CSK, where he will now play alongside Dhoni. Ruturaj Gaikwad captains the side. Shivam Dube — whose 26* off 8 balls in the World Cup Final won India the match — remains at CSK. And CSK finished bottom of the IPL 2025 table — making this a genuine redemption season for the franchise with the most loyal fanbase in cricket.
CSK's first match: March 30, Guwahati vs Rajasthan Royals. The RCB vs CSK blockbuster is on April 5, Chinnaswamy Stadium — which will now take place in front of a full crowd at the newly safety-upgraded venue. Dhoni's Chepauk farewell — if this is indeed his last season — may come even later in the tournament.
For now, one thing is confirmed: Thala is back.
