Tim David hit a six so big it cleared the Chinnaswamy Stadium roof and landed near Cubbon Park. RCB are top of the table. CSK are bottom with three losses from three. And tonight, KKR — winless and desperate — face in-form Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens.
April 6, 2026 — cricket is delivering. Here is everything you need to know.
🔥 RCB 250/3 Beat CSK 207 by 43 Runs — Tim David Goes Supernova
When Tim David walked in to bat at the Chinnaswamy on April 5, RCB were 151 for 2 in the 14th over — already in a strong position. What happened next was something that even seasoned IPL watchers had rarely seen.
David faced 25 balls. He hit 8 sixes and 3 fours. He scored 70 runs off those 25 deliveries. His 19th over against Jamie Overton produced 30 runs — including a six that cleared the stadium roof and landed near the neighboring Cubbon Park, measured at 106 metres. One of the longest sixes ever hit at Chinnaswamy.
Captain Rajat Patidar was equally brutal alongside him — 48 off just 19 balls, 6 sixes. Together the pair put on a 58-run partnership in barely 5 overs. Devdutt Padikkal had earlier provided the foundation with 50 off 29 balls. Phil Salt contributed 46 off 30. And Virat Kohli, though dismissed for 28, treated the Chinnaswamy crowd to the no-look shovelled six that went viral within seconds of happening — Anushka Sharma's reaction in the stands going equally viral alongside it.
RCB finished with 250 for 3 — their third-highest total in IPL history, and the highest total ever scored against CSK in the league's 18-year history.
CSK's chase was effectively over by the third over. Sanju Samson (9), Ruturaj Gaikwad (7) and Ayush Mhatre (1) were all back in the pavilion before CSK had 30 on the board. Sarfaraz Khan fought back brilliantly with 50 off 25 balls — but even he could not manufacture enough support. Prashant Veer showed his talent with 43 off 29 balls, but CSK were bowled out for 207 — their third successive defeat of IPL 2026.
For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed 3 wickets to complete 200 IPL wickets — becoming only the second bowler in IPL history to reach that landmark. A historic night at Chinnaswamy all round.

Also on April 5 — LSG beat SRH by 5 wickets in Hyderabad. Rishabh Pant's stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Liam Livingstone was the moment of the game. Mohammed Shami's 3-wicket spell was equally crucial as LSG chased down SRH's modest total with ease.
💊 Dhoni Update — "Getting There Slowly"
During yesterday's match, RCB commentator Ravi Shastri asked CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a Dhoni update. Gaikwad's answer will give CSK fans cautious optimism: "He is on track. He is getting there slowly, slowly. He is eager to play. But you know it takes time sometimes. It will be soon."
As we reported on March 28 — CSK officially confirmed Dhoni is out for the first two weeks with a calf strain. His return is expected around April 11-12. Given CSK are already 0-3, his return cannot come soon enough — the five-time champions look toothless without his presence and experience in the dressing room.

🏏 Tonight's Match — KKR vs PBKS, Eden Gardens 7:30 PM IST
Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata | Toss: 7:00 PM IST | Match: 7:30 PM IST
This is a must-win for KKR. Back-to-back title winners in 2023 and 2024, the Knight Riders are already staring down a hole — two losses from two, sitting in 9th place. Their injury crisis — Harshit Rana out for the season, Akash Deep also unavailable — has hurt their bowling options significantly before a ball was bowled.
Ajinkya Rahane's side desperately need their batting — Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh, Cameron Green, Andre Russell — to fire at their home fortress. Eden Gardens traditionally plays quicker than Chinnaswamy, with more help for the pacers.
Punjab Kings arrive in the form of their lives — 2 wins from 2, joint top of the table. Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer have all shown good form. Their bowling attack — led by Arshdeep Singh — has been the most consistent in the tournament so far.
Weather alert: A thunderstorm is forecast for Kolkata tonight. Toss will be crucial — and a DLS result is possible. Watch this space!
Our prediction: PBKS by 15-20 runs — KKR's bowling is too thin to contain Punjab's batters in a full game, even at Eden Gardens.
🇧🇩 Bangladesh BCB Crisis — 7 Officials Resign, President Refuses to Quit
Away from the IPL, Bangladesh cricket is in deep trouble. Seven of the BCB's 25 directors have resigned — including four following a board meeting on April 5 — amid a committee investigation into alleged malpractice and abuse of power during last year's board elections.
The resignations come as the BCB faces scrutiny from Bangladesh's sports ministry over three issues: the validity of last year's board elections, Bangladesh's absence from the T20 World Cup 2026, and claims of political interference in team selection. Despite the mass resignations, BCB president Aminul Islam has refused to step down: "I will sit in my chair, what else can I do? I will be the last person to go."
The crisis could have serious implications for Bangladesh cricket's future — with the New Zealand tour of Bangladesh in April now in doubt if the administrative chaos is not resolved quickly.
